This morning as I stared over my backyard that is under construction (I’ve decided to take the DIY approach on many things lately which is “meh”) I noticed I had just thrown these two outdoor mats to the side and despite them being in a positon to stop the growth of the grass it did not. The weeds and grass found a way to grow through the holes and through and around any openings. This prompted me to pull out my Canon T3i and take a stab at my photography skills once again. To me this photo means a lot, for some it may just look like a mess.

There are several messages in this photo, let’s start with the most obvious. You can see the grass is growing through the holes and any opening that it can find. This represents that whomever or whatever in it’s natural state will do what it is designed to do, in the case of the grass it is designed to grow. I apply this similarity to my life and I’m sure many others can relate. It seems like there is only a small window or hole and many are trying to get through and there are many ways you can get through, you can fight your way through, you get through easily because that’s just how you were built, you squeeze your way through, you wrap around a stronger weed and make your way through the list goes on.

In many ways I feel like the black mat resembles the system, fear and our own mental struggles holding us down from growing. If I were to just leave the mat there and do nothing eventually the grass would bond together and grow up and over the mat and the mat will disappear. Those weeds/grass that started the journey may be forgotten and the ones that end up on top will be recognized. That’s what they mean when they say “there is nothing new under the sun” Unknown. Sometimes we don’t get recognized for our efforts even though if it wasn't for us some people wouldn't be where they are today.

In closing all of us were not created equal, as far as basic human composition yes but as far as strengths and weaknesses no. Grass and weeds are meant to grow that’s just what's in their genetic composition. What’s in your genetic composition? Be the grass and don't worry about the distractions and obstacles, just be who you know you are.
